Shield
The colors buff and blue are those used by the Quartermaster Corps and allude to the 34th Support Battalion as having been originally constituted as the Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 34th Quartermaster Battalion. The heraldic billets (oblong shapes) allude to those official documents (requisitions, records, etc.) which are necessary to the handling of military supplies, symbolized by the sword and key.
Crest
The three red barrulets on gold (bezant) refer to Vietnam where the unit participated in five campaigns. Blue represents the Presidential Unit Citation awarded the organization as the 34th Quartermaster Battalion, a support element of the 1st Cavalry Division (Air Mobile), the billet and wing alluding to the support of the Division, the green mounds denoting the "high country" of Pleiku Province City. The red barrulets also refer to the two Meritorious Unit Commendations for Vietnam, 1968-69, awarded the unit as the 34th Supply and Service Battalion, and the colors red, white and blue denote the Valorous Unit Award, 1970. The mounds also simulate islands and the bezant a tropical sun, together they allude to the Philippine Islands, the unit's place of activation.
The coat of arms was originally approved for the 34th Quartermaster Battalion on 1 March 1962. It was authorized for the 34th Support Battalion and amended to add the crest on 7 February 1972.
